Moore Landscapes provides a number of services to make your property beautiful and seasonally appropriate. We can provide landscape maintenance for existing landscapes or redesign and install a whole new landscape. Another service we provide is LEED certification for your building. In this week’s blog we’ll discuss LEED certification.

What is LEED? LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. According to Wikipedia it is ‘a set of rating systems for the design, construction, operation and maintenance of green buildings, homes and neighborhoods.

Is there just one level of LEED certification? No, there are four levels of LEED certification. The levels are based on a 100 point system. 40-40 points is labeled “certified”, 50-59 points is ‘silver’. 60-79 is ‘gold’ and 80 points and above is ‘platinum’.

What are the benefits? It demonstrates a commitment to a health environment, ecological stewardship and in general a responsible business model. Who wouldn’t want that as a selling point when going after customers. A LEED Certified house typically reduces energy consumption rates by up to 30%. There are also tax incentives that go in and out of validity so it’s best to check with your builder about which ones you will be eligible for at the time of your building or retrofitting.

A What? Roof? A green roof! Well, to learn more about green roofs, check next week’s blog where we will go into detail about what a green roof is and what it can do for you building.
